Second Trimester

The second trimester has been so great! At about 16 weeks, I got my energy and appetite back. The first thing I really enjoyed eating was tomatoes especially on hamburgers. I wanted fresh tomatoes from the garden, but we don't have a garden and Gary and Cindy's garden is too far away sadly. For lunches, I did bagels and cream cheese, but eventually was able to get back to PB&J sandwiches. Chocolate and donuts were back on the table and I tried to convince my mom that she should overnight me some French donuts from Tan's in the name of pregnancy cravings. Bryce was glad that meat was back on the menu! However, I haven't had any crazy food cravings that were super intense. I craved food before pregnancy so I am just back to normal. Though I often think why don't we have Chick-fil-A or In-n-Out in Portland?!

It has been the best to have my energy back. I feel like getting up and going to work during the week and on the weekends I want to clean my house. I might even have a little nesting going on. I just want everything clean and organized. I have been getting rid of clutter especially clothes I never wear.

At about 18 weeks, I felt the baby move! I would describe it as a fish swimming inside. It makes me feel a little motion sickness and he really likes to mess with my bladder. I can't believe how often I feel like I need to go to the bathroom. His most active times tend to be around 10:30AM to 1:30PM and 8:30PM to 11:30PM.

Sleeping has gotten harder. I can't sleep on my stomach, which is my preference so every time I turn on my stomach I wake up because it hurts. Slowly, I am learning how to sleep again in different positions.

I have continued to work out and feel really good when I exercise. I also started going to a pre-natal yoga class even though I don't have a huge belly. It is nice to focus my stretching on the baby areas and it especially helps with the swelling I get in my legs and ankles from sitting at my desk all day long. Not the ankles! As my belly is expanding, I find it rather uncomfortable. Apparently, ligaments and muscles are stretching. At first, I thought the sharp pains were the baby moving, but Google told me differently. Slowly, my jeans aren't fitting as well and I can't do pencil skirts for church anymore. I guess it is time to get maternity clothes.

Overall, I am a fan of the second trimester and I can feel my heart expanding with love for this little baby boy!

  1. So excited for you! Prenatal Yoga class is a good idea. I should check that out the next time I have a kid.
