Unsolved Car Mysteries

After more than two weeks on vacation, I was ready to come home, but not necessarily ready to go back to work. Tuesday morning I got up and got ready for work, but then my car wouldn't start when it was time to go. Bryce had even started my car while I was gone so I wouldn't have a dead battery, but the car just wasn't having it. It seemed more like the alternator or starter than the battery. So anyways, my neighbor was kind enough to give me a ride to work and I arranged to have the car towed to the mechanics the next day. Bryce picked me up from work that evening and we came home together.

Wednesday morning the tow truck came at 6:45AM and off the car went to get fixed. I rode with Bryce downtown and then took the MAX out to Beaverton. Nike has a shuttle that comes to the MAX stop and I was able to get to campus easily enough. It took about an hour and half from front door to desk, but even though it was a long commute, it was pretty relaxing. That evening, my coworker dropped me off at the MAX stop and then I took the MAX a few stops to the WES train line. I took the WES to Tigard where Bryce picked me up closer to home.

As for the car, the mechanic called Wednesday morning and said he couldn't get it started, but the battery, alternator, and starter were all fine. He said it may have to be towed to the dealership to find issue. No! Then that afternoon, the mechanic called back and said he was able to get the car started and it was running just fine, but there appeared to be a short in a electrical wires. I told him to go ahead and run the diagnosis on the electrical to see if that was the issue.

Thursday, I did the long commute again riding with Bryce downtown and taking the MAX out to Nike. As I rode, I had visions of selling my car and moving downtown. Since Nike provides for my yearly MAX pass, we would save a ton only having one car! My Vienna days were coming back so clearly until I remembered how much I like driving.

The mechanic called in the afternoon and said my car was done and ready to be picked up. I totally spaced asking about what he found, but Bryce picked me up after work and we headed over. When I arrived, the mechanic didn't mention any issues and the best part was when he gave me the bill the total charges were $0.00! That's right zero. Apparently, they found nothing wrong with the electrical, but still they checked everything and did get it started, but didn't charge me for any of it! After all these thoughts of buying a new car because BMWs are so expensive to maintain, it goes and does something like this and totally redeems itself! Oh, and thank you Firestone Complete Auto!

Friday morning my car started up just fine and it only took me 30 minutes to get to work. Now, I am hoping my car stays on its best behavior for a few more years!
