Goodbye June

June flew by and left with a heat wave!
Friday evening, we invited our friends over for kebabs. The theme was "Sticks and Stripes" so we had kebabs, fruit sticks with trifle, and sparklers! We also enjoyed playing boccie ball in the park. It was such a fun evening even though it was quite warm and muggy.

Saturday, we woke up early at 6:30AM and headed out to the gorge for another hike. This time to the top of Dog Mountain. On the website, the level of hike was DIFFICULT and Saturday's forecast was going to be in the 90's so the perfect combination. Well, we got to the trail head at 9:30AM and started up the steep switchbacks. It reminded me of the hike to the Y, but luckily we had more shade. It was very much uphill, but luckily Bryce had his new camelbak so he could stay hydrated, too!
Laughing about which way to go!

About halfway up, the trail opened up to a beautiful view with lots of wild flowers. Luckily, it was windy and cool up there or I am not sure how long I would have lasted.
We made it up to the top and enjoyed a beautiful view of the gorge along with Mt. Hood peaking over the mountain ridge.
Because the path was so steep going up, the way down was almost as bad. It was too steep and rocky to run down, but trying to walk was too hard. Somewhere among the run, skip, and walk pace, we made it down. Along the way, we saw lots of people starting to hike up and it was getting so hot. which I was so happy we decided to start early!
To celebrate our conquer of Dog Mountain, we ate at Wendy's! Then finally got home so excited for a cold shower. That evening we went to Luc Lac, a Vietnamese place downtown. We got their yummy coconut   curry that was amazing. If only they would have turned on the A/C (I was actually sweating as we sat there eating. Part of me was hoping I would faint so they would turn on the air, but no such luck. I just do not understand why Oregon thinks it is ok to live without A/C. A top 10 invention in my book!).

Then Sunday, we went to church and after we hid from the heat in our bedroom with the A/C window unit blasting. It was nice because we were also sore from the hike. Also, Bryce and I were productive organizing our recipes onto 3x5 cards and filing papers. We also used the down time to call family so it ended up being fun!
