Camping Fun

Our friends, Dan and Elizabeth, invited us to go camping with them the last weekend in March. We were excited, but I was quite nervous about the trip because camping is fun when one is prepared. In terms of gear, we have a tent that was a wedding gift, a blow up mattress, and camping chairs. Bryce kept the hope alive and got things together. Additionally, the weather that weekend was amazing!

Friday afternoon, I got off work around 3:30 and we were on the road by 4:30. The drive was longer than we expected, but we were able to make it up there before dark. It was a nice campsite just along the river and road, and Dan and Elizabeth were already there with dinner in the Dutch oven. We set up our spacious six person tent with the air mattress and a ten blanket spread. We felt a little ridiculous, but I guess you could say we camp in style?!
The next adventure was trying to get the fire started with all the wet wood, but having two eagle scouts and a sharp ax provided a roaring blaze after an hour! (Apparently, the sharp ax was the highlight of it all because as boy scouts they had only used dull ones so when the ax actually split the wood it was rather surprising.)
We then ate and talked around the fire for hours. So fun even though it got chilly.
This reminded me of Idaho Dutch oven days!
The next day we woke up and ate eggs and bacon. Then we went down to the river to throw rocks and enjoy the beautiful sunshine. It was already getting warm and the fog was burning off! We then took down camp and headed home.
