For being the third week of September, there were a little too many highs and lows. Monday went fine, but Tuesday, I got in a car accident on my way to work. I have known Oregon drivers are terrible, but now I have the evidence to prove it! I had left early because I needed to get gas before work and I had just started the audio book of Pride & Prejudice. The traffic was moving pretty well, but the left lane was slower than the right lane like usual so I stayed in the right lane. As the left lane was pretty much coming to a stop, my lane was still moving a little bit when all of a sudden I see this car pull out right as I am passing him. I looked out my driver window and saw the car headed straight for me and thought "this car is going to hit me!" Then he hit me. I honestly can't remember much except that I was glaring at the driver. We pulled off to the side of the road and exchanged information and he said he was sorry. I stayed relatively calm and didn't cry. I checked out the damage and luckily it wasn't horrible because we were going slow, but it is from the driver's door to the back bumper. The main impact was right between the passenger and driver doors, but I remember thinking to myself "it is only a car." I am pretty proud of myself for having that thought because I get way too attached to my belongings especially cars. Any time Bryce or I hit a pot hole or something, I make this little cringing noise, because I don't want the car to get hurt! Anyways, I called the insurance company during lunch and get to have fun dealing with this mess.
Minimal damage, but so sad!
Wednesday, I had to deal with Comcast (the devil's company) because our internet bill when up, again. I called the 1-800-Xfinity number, but the guy looked at my account and told me that I had used all the "coupons" and as he described it "like with store coupons, you can't use it for another 90 days." To which I said, "well then you find a different coupon and I will be looking for a new internet provider." I then called a different number that I found on the bill and this lady answered. I asked what deals she had available and she told me about this "amazing" internet and cable package where I would also get HBO, Starz, and Showtime channels for more than I was currently paying. Oh boy, how could I resist! I then explained that I wanted to lower my bill and that cable wasn't that important to me. She tried again to tell me how great the deal was and again I said I wasn't interested. She then transferred me to the Customer Loyalty line. A few rings later, this guy answered the phone and I asked for an internet special. He looked around for a moment and said he could give me a deal of $49.99 for a year. Sold! Now did it have be so hard to get to this point?
Lessons Learned: Do not call 1-800-Xfinity and try to go straight to Customer Loyalty department.
Side Note: Why do the reps always say they are "looking" for a deal? Is there some database of specials they are searching or do they have a flip chart of offers? It's like they want me to think they are working really hard trying to find a special that I will not be able to resist.
The end of the week got better with Thursday being a good day of eating right and working out. Bryce played basketball with law student friends and I went to the apartment gym. We have actually be doing really well at eating less and including more veggies the past few months. Not sure if I can see any improvements, but it does feel good to eat healthier. Also, I saw an article on FB about how this CEO was doing a challenge for a week to only spend $4.15 a day on food. I guess food stamps only give each person $4.15 a day. Anyways, I was completely annoyed by this "challenge" because $4.15 is a totally reasonable amount for a day of food and even good food! So I wrote down all the food I eat every week day with prices:
Breakfast ($.27)
Granola Bars - $.27
Lunch ($1.11)
2 Slices of Bread - $.36
2 Slices of Bread - $.36
2 TBSP of Jam - $.20
1 TBSP of Peanut Butter - $.10
Apple - $.45
Dinner ($2.77)
2 Chicken Tenders - $1.18
1 Corn on the Cob - $.75
1 cup Spinach - $.29
1/3 Avocado - $.35
2 Mushroom - $.20
*This doesn't include salt & pepper, spices, oil, and vinegar -
I bought them in bulk awhile ago and didn't look for the receipts
It seems totally possible to survive on $4.15. And even eat healthy. You will notice we didn't spend anything on drinks because we drink water. Plus, there are additional programs that can help people especially with children. The article talked about how people would go to bed hungry and wake up hungry, but there is a difference between starving and being hungry. Every weight lost thing I have read has talked about not eating until you are stuffed and you should wake up hungry and then eat breakfast. I know there are people starving, but there is help out there. I read another article about this lady working at McDonald's who wanted the minimum wage to increase to $15 because she can't pay her bills like cable. Are you kidding me? Oh, this world!
On Friday, Bryce and I went to the temple. It was so lovely. We also got Dang's Thai for dinner. Then Saturday we ran errands and went to our friend's for a BYU football party. Unfortunately, they did not play very well and lost. Sunday we had the primary program and I sat on the stage with the Sunbeams since I help teach the class. It was cute!
