Crabbing Weekend

I love eating crab, but I didn't know that Oregon was a great place to go crabbing! It came up in the summer with our friends and they said how they had gone before and we should plan a trip. I was ALL FOR IT! It worked out for this past weekend and was amazing!!! Friday after a very long week of work, Bryce and I headed out to the coast. We took the CX-5 for it's maiden voyage and the drive out went well besides Google Maps telling us to take HWY 53. We arrived around 7:30 and then went out to dinner with everyone. Burgers and Fish & Chips were just the ticket to start the weekend. We then got home and sat around chatting with a nice fire blazing.

In the morning Bryce woke up at 6:30AM to go with Cal and Paul to set the pots. I got up at 7AM and headed out with Natalie and Ashley to meet them at the dock. It was a beautiful clear day and we were all excited to get out on the water. We then went into the bay and started lifting up the pots to see if we had caught any crabs. We had 13 pots and so there was lots to check!
I quickly realized what movements were made more difficult being pregnant, but nothing was keeping me from getting those crabs!
Bryce checking out the pot after pulling up one of the big ones!
He got one! They have to be a certain size to keep and luckily for us this one was big enough:) Sorry crabby!

It started out a little slow, but things got going and it was so much fun. We did about 4 rounds of checking the pots and in between we would eat and enjoy being on the boat.
Such a fan of fishing overalls as maternity clothing!

By the end we had 30 crabs to take home!!! Let the feasting begin!
Hello Crabbies!
We look so cool in our crabbing outfits!

We got off the water around 1PM and headed back to the house.

We boiled the crabs in sea water and then cleaned them before chilling them in the refrigerator. It was such a fun process! We then got showered and relaxed until dinner. We were excited about our successful catch.
Dinner we ate crab (obviously). We also had steak and salad. It was a ton of food, but my heart stayed with the crab. DELICIOUS!
Pregnancy has made me a very slow eater and I was the last one at the table, but I had to get ALL my crab meat!

We then ate apple spice cake with caramel sauce and ice cream. Oh man, our stomachs were full and happy. We stayed up watching some football and talking by the fire again. We then headed to bed very tired from our adventure.

Sunday we got up and went to the local branch for church. It was fast and testimony meeting and it was actually one of the best testimony meetings I have ever been too. Everyone shared meaningful stories from their life and how the Gospel has helped them. There was a beautiful feeling of sharing in each other's trials in a down to earth way. We then came back to the house and ate some lunch and packed up.

We came home with 4 crabs to eat! A few nights we just ate crab with butter, but then I decided I really wanted to make crab chowder so after some research on Pinterest I found a recipe that looked pretty easy and good. It turned out amazing!
We were very happy to eat it for multiple meals! And the awesomeness of Oregon increased by 10 folds with our crabbing experience. I didn't even know crabbing could be a dream, but it has come true!
