Those Summer Nights

August continues to be busy! Our lives are something along the lines of work hard and play hard. I'll start with the fun stuff for the last two weeks.

Concert in the Park - In August, the park just down the street from us has concerts every Wednesday evening. A few thousand people show up and it is pretty fun. We were able to make one of the concerts this month. We went with friends and enjoyed the evening.

Ward Campout - Since we haven't been camping recently, I wanted to go to this activity. It was fun to sit around the campfire and chat with friends. It turned into quite the talent show when Bryce accepted the first challenge to performance. He sang a Welsh song. From there, we had everything from kids singing Frozen to the Haka.
Girls singing Let It Go. It was pretty adorable.

BYU Football Box Search -  So 50 days before BYU Football started, the BYU football marketing team has been placing boxes full of BYU gear in one state per day — and giving them to the first fan that finds them after seeing a photo on social media. Well of course, I wanted in on the fun. It ended up that Oregon's day fell on Saturday so we committed our afternoon to it after getting back from the ward campout and cleaning up. We figured that Nike or downtown Portland would be the two most likely spots. We thought about splitting up, but that didn't sound like much fun. So we drove downtown and then got a tweet that the box would be in the "west Portland area" so drove out to Nike. I was able to get on campus since I had my badge, but after walking around for half an hour and seeing that campus was closed to the public we decided to go back downtown. We hung out near Pioneer Square since that is centrally located. Around 3:30PM they sent out another tweet that the box would be dropped in the 3 o'clock hour. With only thirty minutes left, we again debated on splitting up and going out to Nike, but decided not to. So then at 3:57PM, the photo was tweeted. The box was at Nike right at the entrance I go through every day for work. NOOOOO! I should have known it would be at Nike, but oh well. We went home and drowned our sorrow with milkshakes. But we are still excited for BYU Football!

Street of Dreams and Primary BBQ - The following Saturday, we went to the Street of Dreams, which is like a mini Parade of Homes since there were five homes we got to tour. We had fun, but sadly it was a little underwhelming with no new ideas and functionality. I mean the houses were nice, but I wanted to be inspired and see some innovation. Next, we went to the Primary BBQ with all the teachers and leaders. It was fun to socialize with a different group of friends and enjoy some good food.

Voodoo Donuts - On Wednesday night, our friends called us saying they had a gift card to Voodoo's and wanted to know if we wanted any. Who can say no to donuts! We ended up getting a bunch of donuts and enjoying the evening.

Last Thursday - We had heard about Last Thursday and I finally put it on the calendar for August. We carpooled with our friends downtown and arrived around 7PM to find the street already crowded. There was a lot of food, crafts, and street entertainment. I wasn't tempted to buy anything, but it was fun to people watch and walk around. Another couple met us there and Bryce ran into two people he knew!

As for working hard, I have been very busy the last few weeks. My normal work keeps me busy, but I have also been interviewing for a few jobs at Nike. The interviews have gone well and waiting for the offers, but still draining and stressful. Bryce continues to enjoy his job. He gets into the office around 7AM and leaves usually before 5PM so the hours have been reasonable for now.
